Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claims that ahead of the August summit in Alaska, the American side allegedly assured Moscow that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “would not obstruct achieving peace.”

According to him, the United Kingdom and the European Union are trying to persuade Washington to abandon diplomatic settlement efforts, insisting instead on “military pressure” on Russia.
At the same time, Lavrov noted that dialogue between Moscow and the administration of President Donald Trump continues, although “not as quickly as we would like,” which he attributed to “irritants” left over from the previous U.S. leadership. He emphasized that after the change of administration in Washington, Russia “felt a willingness to restore dialogue.”
The Russian minister also accused Ukraine of allegedly hindering peace agreements and stated that the results of the U.S.–Russia presidential meeting in Alaska “do not call into question” the outcomes of the so-called “referendums” of 2014 and 2022.
Regarding the confiscation of frozen Russian assets, Lavrov issued a warning, claiming that such actions “will not help Ukraine repay its debts” and would be viewed by Moscow as “theft of Russian property.”
