Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko once again addressed residents of the capital with a request, if possible, to temporarily leave the city in order to reduce the load on the energy infrastructure. According to him, at night about 600,000 Kyiv residents leave the city precisely for this purpose.

Klitschko noted that around 3.5 million people currently live in Kyiv — one of the highest figures among cities in Eastern Europe. Such a population creates a serious load on life-support systems, including water supply, heating networks, and energy infrastructure, which are operating under conditions of damage and limited resources.
The mayor emphasized that due to the consequences of enemy shelling, the city does not always have the technical capacity to provide heating for all buildings. That is why the authorities regularly ask Kyiv residents, if they have the opportunity, to temporarily stay outside the capital or with relatives to reduce the burden on the city’s infrastructure.
According to Klitschko, a significant part of residents has already followed these recommendations: at night, approximately 600,000 people leave Kyiv, and return during the day for work.
He also stressed that Kyiv remains a working city, and people should not lose their jobs. At the same time, ensuring employment and basic services, he said, is part of a shared challenge — the issue of family survival in wartime conditions.
