According to Reuters, citing a representative of the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office, the transfer will take place after Italy’s Supreme Court on November 19 rejected Kuznetsov’s appeal against the extradition decision, confirming its legality.
Kuznetsov denies any involvement in the sabotage. His lawyer, Nicola Canestrini, stated that he is confident his client will be acquitted in a German court.
German prosecutors allege that Kuznetsov was part of a group that planted explosives on pipelines near the Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea. He faces charges of conspiracy to organize the explosion, anti-constitutional sabotage, and destruction of critical infrastructure.
According to The Wall Street Journal, German investigators suspect that the group of Ukrainians allegedly involved in the Nord Stream sabotage operated under the command of then-commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhny.
