Italy supports Ukraine’s European integration; however, in Rome’s foreign policy priorities, the countries of the Balkan region remain in first place. This was stated by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in an interview with Corriere Della Sera.

According to him, Italy has undertaken commitments to the Balkan states, which is why they are currently at the center of the country’s European integration efforts.
“We support Ukraine’s accession, but the Balkans come first for us. We have made commitments to them, and they are our priority,” Tajani emphasized.
The minister also said that a meeting in the “Friends of the Balkans” format will take place in Rome on March 3, and on April 1 an Italian delegation together with representatives of Germany will visit Belgrade.
At the same time, Tajani stressed that Italy will continue to support Ukraine, which, in his words, “needs to move forward.”
