The occupying forces of the Russian Federation have begun a large-scale regrouping of forces, confirmed by the redeployment of marines and paratroopers towards the Donetsk region. Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) predict that in the fall of 2025, the Russian command will attempt to seize the remaining parts of Donetsk region.

In this direction, soldiers from the 155th Marine Brigade of the Russian Federation, redeployed from the Kursk region, have already been spotted. In addition, Russian military bloggers confirm the movement of the 177th Marine Regiment and the 40th Brigade from northern Sumy region.
The main pressure of the invaders is concentrated in the Pokrovsk direction. Their goal is to advance towards Dobropillia, Pokrovsk, and Kostiantynivka, while at the same time reducing activity in Sumy region.
ISW emphasizes that the concentration of so-called “elite” units in Donetsk region indicates that Russia intends to make this the main focus this fall. However, as last year, the offensive actions are accompanied by enormous losses, especially in manpower.
For comparison, the autumn offensive of 2024 was also focused on Pokrovsk, but the enemy did not achieve strategic results, losing thousands of soldiers and a significant amount of equipment.
