According to the publication, the chances of reaching an agreement within the next 48 hours are low, but this is the last opportunity to avoid massive strikes on Iran’s civilian infrastructure and energy and water supply facilities in the Persian Gulf countries.
The negotiations involve Pakistani, Egyptian, and Turkish mediators, as well as text message exchanges between Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
The proposed two-stage agreement предусматривает first a 45-day ceasefire, during which key points may be agreed upon, and in the second stage, a final end to the war. The full restoration of operations in the Strait of Hormuz and the settlement of the issue of highly enriched uranium remain Iran’s main leverage in the negotiations.
