According to the minister, many new oil suppliers are emerging on the market, such as Guyana, Brazil, and Canada.
“I’m not worried at all. If something happens, we will deal with it. India has diversified its sources of supply, and we’ve gone, I think, from around 27 countries we used to buy from to about 40 countries now,” Puri stated.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump warned that countries buying oil from russia may face sanctions if a peace agreement on the war in Ukraine is not reached within 50 days. At the same time, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte added that some countries, including India, may face restrictions due to doing business with moscow.
A spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs commented on Rutte’s statement, saying that New Delhi’s primary priority was to meet its energy needs, and in this matter the country was guided by “overriding global circumstances.”
