The head of British foreign intelligence, Richard Moore, stated that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has only strengthened Ukrainians’ national identity, accelerated their movement toward the West, and pushed Sweden and Finland to join NATO. ABC News reports this.

During a speech on September 19 at the British Consulate in Istanbul, Moore emphasized that there is no evidence of Vladimir Putin’s readiness for peace negotiations. “He seeks to impose his imperial will by all means. But he has bitten off more than he can chew. He underestimated the Ukrainians,” said the MI6 chief.
Moore stressed that Putin is trying to convince the world of Russia’s inevitable victory, but that is not true: “He lies to the world, to his own people, and perhaps to himself.”
The head of British intelligence, who will step down at the end of September, noted that the war has not strengthened Russia but, on the contrary, is accelerating its decline, since the Kremlin is “mortgaging the country’s future for the sake of a distorted version of history.”
Analysts believe that Putin is counting on exhausting Ukraine in a prolonged war, hoping to outlast the West’s political commitments. At the same time, Kyiv is actively expanding defense cooperation with partners and attracting investment into the military industry.
