Germany is ready to assume responsibility for Ukraine’s security guarantees, but final decisions must be made with the participation of the Ukrainians themselves. This was stated during a visit to Kyiv by German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, Reuters reports.

According to him, negotiations on the guarantees are at an early stage and should begin with a ceasefire.
“The main thing is that the guarantees prevent a new attack by Putin on Ukraine,” he emphasized.
Klingbeil also stressed that this requires strengthening the Ukrainian army and expanding domestic weapons production. At the same time, he noted that currently “the ball is on Putin’s side,” who has not shown readiness for genuine peace negotiations.
