Former translator for Russian President Vladimir Putin, Darya Boyarskaya, has been appointed as the chief OSCE observer for election transparency in Hungary, raising concerns about potential Russian influence on the electoral process. This was reported by Tibor Tompa, head of the Hungarian community in Kyiv and Kyiv region, on the “Ukrainian Focus. Morning” project on Slawa.TV and Espreso.

According to Tompa, Boyarskaya’s appointment demonstrates that the Kremlin has significant influence not only in Hungary but also in some parts of the EU. He also recalled that Sergey Kiriyenko was appointed as Russia’s special representative for elections in Hungary, and Russian representatives actively influence Hungarian media, most of which is currently under the control of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
Tompa noted that the situation in the Hungarian elections is extremely tense. The main competition is between Orbán’s party and Péter Magyar’s party. According to the observer, public support is roughly evenly split, but Magyar’s party has stronger backing among young people aged 17–35, while Orbán’s electorate mostly consists of people with low education levels and pensioners aged 65+.
The community leader also emphasized that most Hungarians are more concerned with domestic politics. According to him, due to economic problems and Orbán’s policies, over 40% of the country’s population lives below the poverty line, and many families do not have enough funds even for basic needs.
