Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that some European leaders are trying to prevent the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, planned to take place in Budapest. He wrote about this on Facebook.

“The date of the meeting between the American and Russian presidents in Budapest has not yet been agreed upon, but there is already clear evidence of attempts to disrupt it at any cost. It’s sad,” Fico noted.
The politician mentioned that one European foreign minister — alluding to Radosław Sikorski — suggested the possibility of delaying Putin’s plane. He also criticized statements about a potential arrest of the Kremlin leader under the International Criminal Court warrant.
“The EU has turned into a military cabinet. A significant portion of member states supports the war in Ukraine, naively believing this could weaken or even defeat Russia,” Fico wrote.
He called the position of some European politicians “paradoxical,” as they are simultaneously pressuring to hold the summit while insisting on the presence of the Ukrainian president.
“In Slovakia, we call this — throwing pitchforks into a possible deal,” the prime minister added.
Fico emphasized that the European Union should support the Trump–Putin meeting if it is truly interested in a “quick peace in Ukraine.”
