NATO has expressed doubts about the ability of European countries to independently provide sufficient security. As one of the generals noted, Europe cannot rely on potential coalition forces from countries like Bangladesh, India, or Ethiopia, as they might leave the battlefield if the situation becomes critical.
Military sources emphasize that an effective peacekeeping operation requires at least 120,000 troops, with around 40,000 being present in Ukraine at the same time. However, according to EU estimates, European countries can provide only 25,000 troops.
Another issue is the uncertainty regarding the peacekeepers’ mandate. Senior officials note that the mission will be ineffective if the military is not granted the authority to use heavy weapons when necessary.
