According to her, recent peace negotiations have noticeably accelerated, and in this context, Ukraine’s European integration process plays a special role. The European Commission views Ukraine’s future EU membership as a political anchor for security guarantees.

Marta Kos recalled that last week the EU decided to extend technical cooperation with Ukraine within negotiation clusters 1, 2, and 6, confirming the steadfast course toward deeper integration.

At the same time, the commissioner warned that Russia may attempt to create new obstacles on Ukraine’s path to European integration. She emphasized that the conflict between Kyiv and Moscow began long before the full-scale war of 2022 — at the moment when Ukraine chose a European development path and signed a free trade agreement with the EU.

Kos also noted that although EU membership is not a universal security guarantee, politically it significantly strengthens Ukraine’s security and prosperity, while also reinforcing stability across Europe.
