European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius stated that, for the effective coordination of pan-European projects in the field of defence, it may be appropriate to create a European Security Council. He said this during a conference of the European Defence Agency on January 28, reports “European Pravda”.

Kubilius noted that the idea of such a Council was first proposed by Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel in 2017–2018, and it could help coordinate and lead the transformation of European defence.
The EU Commissioner called on EU countries to take a leading role in collective defence, noting that at the EU level there are already tools for developing pan-European projects.
“Collective defence would be our strength in a world of giants. We too must become giants — gentle ones who promote international law and cooperation, but at the same time strong,” Kubilius emphasized. He urged member states to work together to make Europe a giant in the field of defence.
