📢 Dutch Justice Minister Davy van Weel announced the initiative in a comment to the Financial Times. The initiating countries include the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Baltic states.
🕊️ This initiative followed intelligence warnings of a potential russian attack on an EU member state within the next five years. According to van Weel, the current geopolitical situation requires serious preparation for crisis scenarios.
🚨 The Dutch official emphasized that the group of eight ministers considers themselves better prepared for such challenges compared to other EU countries, which may fear causing panic among citizens.
📣 “Some countries have just reinstated sirens. Others abandoned them 25 years ago. So, there are serious differences in approaches,” he added.
🏚️ In van Weel’s view, effective EU response requires coordination in areas such as stockpiling, warning systems, and shelter construction.
