Ukrainian defense forces are gradually regaining control over Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region, where Russian troops have been almost completely blocked. This was reported during a telemarathon broadcast by Viktor Trehubov, Head of the Communications Department of the Joint Forces Group.

According to him, the high caution of Ukrainian forces is due to the desire to minimize civilian casualties and destruction in the city. Civilians, including children who had been used by the occupiers as human shields, were previously freed.
“It would be easy to strike all positions, but that would cause unnecessary destruction and civilian casualties,” Trehubov explained.
Russian troops blocked
According to preliminary intelligence, there are about 100-200 Russian soldiers in Kupiansk, remaining without effective reinforcements due to disrupted communications. Assistance from Russia is practically impossible, except for a limited air bridge.
The occupiers are trying to use drones to deliver food and ammunition, but the limited payload capacity of UAVs and Ukrainian control make such attempts largely ineffective.
“Drones cannot fly everywhere, and when something falls, Ukrainians see where it lands and who goes for it. Being Russian in Kupiansk right now is unpleasant,” Trehubov summed up.
Ukrainian forces continue the careful expulsion of the occupiers, simultaneously minimizing risks to civilians and their own personnel.
