Information about the alleged closure of McDonald’s restaurants in Dnipro and Chernihiv due to the threat of military actions has begun to spread on Ukrainian social networks and media. However, the company officially stated that it is not currently considering such an option. The establishments are operating as usual, and for safety reasons, only locations in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Sumy have been closed.

OBOZ.UA investigated the real situation. It all started with media reports citing unnamed sources claiming that managers of local establishments had already been warned about plans to wind down operations by the end of the current period.
The alleged reason was increased risks associated with the intensification of military actions near these cities. This information caused a wave of concern among social media users and residents of the regions.
However, a few hours later, the situation was clarified by the company’s official communication. In a comment to OBOZ.UA, McDonald’s confirmed that temporary closures are applied only in high-risk zones and only if the situation contradicts internal safety protocols.
“The news currently spreading online about possible closures of McDonald’s restaurants in Dnipro and Chernihiv is not true. Currently, 112 out of 127 McDonald’s restaurants are operating in Ukraine. Fifteen locations (in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Sumy) remain closed for safety reasons, but we have no intentions to close restaurants in other regions,” the statement says.
Even in such cases, it is not a permanent closure but a possible temporary measure based on safety assessments. So far, no final decision has been made, and restaurants continue to operate as usual.
McDonald’s has repeatedly emphasized that in wartime conditions, the safety of employees and guests remains the top priority. Therefore, decisions to suspend operations in certain regions are made exclusively based on objective risks.
