British Defense Minister John Healey expressed confidence that U.S. President Donald Trump has unique leverage to influence Russian leader Vladimir Putin and persuade him to begin peace talks with Ukraine, Politico reported.

“President Trump is the figure who could bring Putin to the negotiating table, potentially putting an end to the fighting,” Healey said after the Joint Expeditionary Force meeting in Bodø, where a new partnership agreement with Ukraine was signed.
The British minister emphasized that the work of Ukraine’s partners within the so-called “coalition of resolve” is constantly evolving to ensure that allies are ready to support peace when the right moment arrives.
Healey also stressed that despite the difficult situation on the front line, allies must prepare for the stage of recovery and security guarantees as soon as an opportunity for peace appears. His statement came amid discussions about the future U.S. role in resolving the war, where Trump, according to experts, could become a key mediator between Kyiv and Moscow.
