The launches took place on December 15. Information about the tests was disclosed by the head of one of the UK Ministry of Defence units, Anna-Lee Reilly, during hearings of the UK Parliament’s Defence Committee.
The official name of the missile and the developer company have not yet been disclosed. It is known that 27 companies were involved in the Brakestop program, working on various technological components of the project.
According to Defense Express estimates, the tested missile has a range of about 600 km and is equipped with a warhead weighing 200–300 kg. The publication notes that it is a relatively mass-produced and inexpensive cruise missile.
Anna-Lee Reilly emphasized that one of the key goals of the program is the possibility of transferring such missiles to Ukraine, which continues to defend itself against Russian aggression.
“The principle is simple: procurement, testing, and scaling. We can conduct tests in the United Kingdom and then deliver these solutions to Ukraine,” she explained.
The Brakestop project was launched in September 2024 and from the very beginning was positioned as an extremely ambitious initiative. Its goal is the rapid development of a cruise missile with a range of over 500 km, a warhead weighing 200–300 kg, and an accuracy of ±30 meters even in conditions of отсутствия satellite navigation and active counteraction by electronic warfare systems.
