It is noted that such participation could cover up to two-thirds of Ukraine’s financial needs over the next two years. A significant portion of the funds is planned to be directed toward defense needs — the purchase of weapons, equipment, and other critically important resources to deter Russian aggression.
It is expected that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will announce this position during the European Political Community summit, which is seen as a key platform for coordinating security in Europe after the start of the full-scale war in 2022.
In London, it is emphasized that strengthening cooperation with the EU in the field of defense is a pragmatic step aimed at enhancing the overall security of the continent. Starmer stresses that European countries must act faster and more decisively in conditions of global instability.
At the same time, the United Kingdom is planning a new package of sanctions against Russian companies aimed at weakening Russia’s military-industrial supply chains. Thus, London is combining financial support for Ukraine with increased sanctions pressure.
The initiative comes amid U.S. calls for European allies to take greater responsibility for the region’s security.
It is also noted that Britain’s participation in the program could open new opportunities for Ukraine’s defense industry and reconstruction projects, as well as strengthen economic cooperation between the parties.
