On Thursday, August 28, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany will begin the procedure of restoring UN sanctions against Iran in the Security Council. This was reported by Reuters, citing two European diplomats.

On the previous day, August 27, the three countries met with the Iranian side in an attempt to resume negotiations on the nuclear program. However, Tehran did not provide sufficient commitments, so the European states decided to resort to the sanctions restoration mechanism provided for in the 2015 agreement, which was aimed at preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
The ministers of the three countries have already informed U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio of their decision, and on Thursday they will submit the corresponding letter to the UN Security Council. They expect this step to force Tehran, within 30 days, to provide guarantees regarding its nuclear program, which could delay the imposition of sanctions.
