He has disappeared from public activity after news of Viktor Orbán’s historic election defeat, 444.hu reports. In particular, Szijjártó was not present alongside Orbán when he publicly acknowledged the defeat.
Journalists note that the minister has not updated his social media accounts for more than 16 hours. His last Facebook post was on Sunday, urging Fidesz supporters to take part in the vote.
On the morning of April 12, Szijjártó also posted about voting together with his wife.
According to journalists, the minister has come under criticism following reports of alleged contacts with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, as well as accusations of passing confidential information from EU summit negotiations to Russia.
Against the backdrop of Orbán’s political defeat, Szijjártó’s absence has drawn additional media attention and fueled speculation about the situation within the Hungarian government.
