Bundestag deputy Roderich Kiesewetter stated that Germany is not ready to change its support strategy to one that envisions Ukraine’s victory and the full liberation of occupied territories.

He noted that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s initiative to hold virtual talks on August 13 with several world leaders regarding the situation in Ukraine does not yet indicate Berlin’s readiness to take a leading role in European politics and security.
According to Kiesewetter, Germany’s indecisive and inconsistent policy contributes to pressure on Ukraine toward sham negotiations and capitulation, which benefits only Russia and could lead to an escalation of the war.
The deputy emphasized that Russia aims to annex all Ukrainian territory in violation of international law, and the video conference in Berlin will make sense only if Europe actively increases pressure on the Kremlin.
He stated that specific measures are necessary: control of air defense over Western Ukraine, training Ukrainian forces to operate Taurus missiles, the transfer of precision long-range missiles, frozen Russian assets, and the implementation of secondary sanctions against India and China.
Kiesewetter stressed that NATO membership, which includes nuclear protection, is the only reliable security guarantee for Ukraine, and that all current agreements on security, financial support, and weapons cannot replace full guarantees.
