The head of the Dutch government, Dick Schoof, emphasized that after achieving peace, Ukraine and its partners must systematically prepare to hold Russia accountable for armed aggression.

According to the Prime Minister, a just and lasting peace is possible only if the damage caused is compensated. Reparations are not an automatic process; they require deliberate decisions and actions.
“Today we are taking the next step. We have established an International Claims Commission for Ukraine, which will handle compensation for the damage caused during the war,” Schoof stressed. He reminded that every day in Ukraine, Russia deliberately destroys residential buildings, enterprises, and infrastructure.
The Prime Minister noted that early in the full-scale invasion, Volodymyr Zelensky called on the Netherlands to take the initiative in restoring justice, and his country gladly responded to this call, considering The Hague’s rich international legal heritage.
On the first day of the diplomatic conference, a resolution was adopted to locate the Claims Commission for Ukraine in the Netherlands under the Council of Europe.
Schoof emphasized that the Netherlands is cooperating with Ukraine, the Council of Europe, and other countries to achieve justice. A special tribunal has already been established to investigate the crime of aggression against Ukraine, a registry of damages is being maintained, and now the Claims Commission is being launched.
“We are sending a very clear signal: even after the war ends, Ukraine can count on our support and the support of all partners,” Schoof concluded.
