Europe must set clear boundaries to contain Russia’s aggression, as Vladimir Putin will act only within the limits allowed to him, said German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful.

Wadeful emphasized that recent violations of Polish and Romanian airspace by Russian drones indicate Moscow’s intent to escalate rather than pursue peace. Attacks on critical infrastructure and damage to underwater cables, he noted, target the security of EU allies and create uncertainty and distrust.
The minister added that the EU is already preparing its 19th sanctions package against Russia and hopes for its swift approval. He also urged the U.S. to finally implement the sanctions against Russia announced earlier this summer, noting that more than 90 senators support these measures.
Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Marmeld Stenergard added that the EU and NATO are in a long-term confrontation with Russia, making it important to continue comprehensive support for Ukraine — militarily, humanitarianly, economically, and politically.
Wadeful stressed that the freedom Ukraine defends is the foundation of European security. Germany, Sweden, and their partners are ready to provide Ukraine with weapons, training, security guarantees, and continue supporting sanctions against Russia.
