President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine will not accept security guarantees from countries that did not help it in a critical moment, and rejected Russia’s proposal for China to act as a guarantor after a possible peace agreement.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Ukraine would not have reliable guarantees without Russia and mentioned the Istanbul agreements. Kyiv rejected this initiative since it effectively gave Moscow a veto right.
Zelensky also confirmed his readiness to meet with Putin, but not in Moscow or Budapest. As possible venues, he named neutral European countries — Switzerland or Austria — as well as Turkey, where delegation talks had already taken place.
