Before flying to Germany, Rubio stated that although the meeting is not yet 100% confirmed, he is confident it will take place. He emphasized the importance of ending the war, calling Russia’s winter strikes on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure “horrific.”
“This is a war. People are suffering, especially during the coldest time of the year. That is why we are working so hard to try to bring an end to the conflict,” said the U.S. Secretary of State.
Rubio added that this year’s Munich Security Conference comes at a “critical moment,” highlighting the world’s transition into a new era of geopolitics, which will require rethinking the role of the U.S. and its partners in global security.
