U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that Greenland should be part of the United States and warned European countries against increasing military presence on the island, reports WEF in Davos.

According to him, the U.S. urges allies to recognize the strategic necessity of controlling Greenland. Bessent recalled historical examples of territorial agreements involving Denmark, including the purchase of the U.S. Virgin Islands during World War I.
The minister also questioned Denmark’s neutral status at that time, suggesting that the country allegedly sold significant territories.
Separately, Bessent criticized European countries’ intentions to increase their military presence in Greenland, calling such actions a potentially dangerous political signal.
