US President Donald Trump, during a meeting with journalists, once again allowed the possibility of establishing American control over Greenland — the giant island between the Arctic and Atlantic oceans that is part of the Kingdom of Denmark.

In an interview with The New York Times, Trump effectively posed a choice between acquiring Greenland and preserving NATO. When asked which was more important to him, the Republican president stated that the transatlantic alliance is “useless without the United States at its core.”
“There may be a choice. The transatlantic alliance, in essence, brings no benefit without the United States,” Trump said.
He also emphasized that control over Greenland opens up more opportunities for the United States, adding: “Ownership is very important.”
As CNN recalls, Donald Trump has publicly expressed a desire to buy Greenland since 2019 — an autonomous territory of Denmark. At the same time, according to diplomats, neither he nor members of his administration directly voiced this idea to Danish or Greenlandic officials.
Meanwhile, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt had previously stated that the US government is “actively” discussing a possible purchase of the island.
