Analysts outline two possible scenarios: the first — Ukraine, under pressure, agrees to surrender terms due to a worsening humanitarian situation; the second — the international community increases pressure on Russia, forcing it to agree to end the war, even through a temporary ceasefire fixing the current front line.
Experts also highlight a political factor in the U.S. They note that phone conversations between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin have repeatedly shifted the dynamics in Russia’s favor, even when the situation on the front could have improved for Ukraine — including through potential delivery of more powerful long-range missiles.
NBC News analysts’ overall conclusion: without a “miracle” or a sharp and consistent increase in pressure on Russia, an end to the war by summer seems unlikely.
