On February 12, Russia once again attempted to disrupt the rotation of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).

🔹 According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Georgiy Tykhy, the Kremlin used its usual tactics of blackmail and provocation, deploying armed stormtroopers with white flags in the area where the IAEA rotation was set to take place, on the line between Ukrainian-controlled territories and the temporarily occupied zone.
🔹 Tykhy stated that Russia regularly delays the agreement on the location and timing of the rotation, sending conflicting signals about its readiness to ensure safe passage. However, an hour before the rotation begins, Russia opens fire or starts combat operations in the area, after which Russian stormtroopers with white flags appear, indicating a possible provocation.
🔹 Russia is trying to force the IAEA to violate Ukraine’s sovereignty by offering a route to the ZNPP through temporarily occupied territories and blackmailing the agency with the threat of blocking the mission’s operations. Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the international community to protect the IAEA from Russian pressure.
🔹 Over three years of occupation, Russia has significantly deteriorated the condition of the ZNPP, turning Europe’s largest nuclear power plant into a military base. This pressure is part of a broader Russian strategy that uses nuclear energy as a weapon to create conditions for independent oversight.
