In the near future, Russia may resort to aggressive actions against NATO countries, including in the form of hybrid operations. According to analysts, this could be driven by both the Kremlin’s internal plans and external political factors. This was stated by military analyst Denys Popovych on Radio NV.

According to him, Russia’s accusations against the Baltic states of allegedly attacking Russian territory may be part of preparations for a possible new phase of conflict with NATO.
“And this could happen in the near future. There is a lot of talk about this now, and there are preconditions for it,” the expert noted.
He also suggested that US President Donald Trump’s policies could play a role in increasing risks, particularly signals about a possible reduction in US involvement in defending NATO allies.
Popovych believes this may align with the Kremlin’s long-term goals of weakening the Alliance and splitting the EU.
According to him, a window of opportunity for such actions could open this year and last until electoral processes in the United States, which could potentially change the political balance of power.
The expert also noted that the Baltic states currently pose the highest risk and could become potential targets of hybrid scenarios.
He added that Russia may consider actions similar to the events of 2014 in Ukraine, when limited forces and hybrid methods were used to quickly achieve political goals.
