Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is ready to continue the war against Ukraine for at least another 18–24 months in order to fully occupy Donbas. The New York Times reports this, citing military officials and representatives of Western intelligence agencies.

According to them, Putin remains convinced that Russia is “winning” the war. The Kremlin believes that even a prolonged confrontation works in Moscow’s favor.
As the publication notes, the Russian leader operates under the logic that each day of fighting, as well as nightly missile and drone strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and residential areas, allegedly gradually exhausts the Ukrainian side and strengthens Russia’s position.
