Europe must be strong enough so that Putin does not dare to attack it — this was stated by Petro Poroshenko during the International Democratic Union Summit in Zagreb.

He noted that Russia, as an aggressor state, will not disappear from the world map, so the West must live with a clear understanding of this fact. For now, in Poroshenko’s opinion, the civilized world is not strong enough to restrain Putin’s ambitions.
“The sooner we take off the rose-colored glasses, the better. We must understand that on February 20, 2014, when Russia, as one of the permanent members of the UN Security Council, attacked Ukrainian Crimea and Ukrainian Donbas, it became the murder of the post-war security system that was created on the basis of the UN Security Council. It simply no longer works. International law no longer functions because one of the guarantor countries is an aggressor,” Petro Poroshenko explains.
“You must understand the psychology of Russia and the psychology of Putin. When you ask about the ‘Anglo-Saxon threat’ to Russia as a propaganda factor — you are absolutely mistaken. This is not propaganda. This is Putin’s way of thinking. Putin creates a fake, begins to believe in this fake, and then starts fighting against this fake. In this situation, we must learn how to live together with Russia on the same continent. This is the only factor that lies beyond our influence. We cannot remove Russia from Europe. Everything else is possible,” Poroshenko believes.
“My main achievement as the fifth President of Ukraine is not that we carried out huge reforms, and not that we obtained visa-free travel or the Association Agreement with the European Union. My main achievement is that during the five years of my presidency, we did not have a full-scale war with Russia. Thanks to the Minsk agreements, thanks to the help of the European Union, strong and effective cooperation with NATO, and the creation of the Armed Forces — we avoided a large war,” Poroshenko said.
“Why did we succeed? Because security and the Armed Forces were our main priority, not anything else. And my recommendation to the European Union, NATO, and the entire civilized world: be strong. This is the only unique tool to avoid war with Russia. You do not have to create a threat to Russia. To start a war, it is enough for you to simply be weak. And that is completely enough for Russia to attack you,” Petro Poroshenko warned.
“Unfortunately, at the moment you are not strong enough. But together with Ukraine, we will definitely become much stronger. Without a doubt. And this is not a joke,” the fifth president concluded.
