Poroshenko also welcomed the EU Council’s unblocking of €90 billion in loans for Ukraine for 2026–2027, as well as the 20th package of sanctions against Russian aggression.
He stated: “I noted that these are exactly the steps that will help our country strengthen the Armed Forces, economic resilience, and plan resistance in the medium term,” the fifth President wrote on social media.
“We also discussed expectations from today’s informal meeting of EU member state leaders in Cyprus, particularly in the context of discussions on further steps toward Ukraine’s EU membership. I emphasized that ‘European Solidarity’ has always been a committed supporter of EU membership through reforms and meeting EU standards and criteria, in order to improve the lives of Ukrainian citizens and create new opportunities for Ukrainian business development,” Poroshenko wrote.
“We also discussed with Commissioner Kos problematic issues related to the rule of law, corruption, and politically motivated persecutions in Ukraine, including in the context of political pressure on the Supreme Court in the case of lifting unconstitutional sanctions against the opposition leader, as well as obstacles to the foreign policy work of Ukrainian MPs and ambassadors,” the party leader noted.
“Without the rule of law, Ukraine will not be able to become a member of the European Union. Therefore, the implementation of the ‘Kachka-Kos plan’ is very important. Because joining the European Union is a national project involving the whole society and the opposition, not only a government project. We agreed to maintain contacts on urgent issues of the Ukraine–EU agenda,” Petro Poroshenko wrote.
