Accompanying documents propose the creation of a program of random polygraph checks. There are no restrictions on who may be tested — from four-star generals to ordinary administrative staff.
As noted by The Washington Post, these measures are part of a strategy by former President Donald Trump’s administration and Pentagon leadership aimed at identifying officials considered disloyal or suspected of leaking information to journalists.
National security experts and former officials emphasize that there are already penalties for unauthorized disclosure of classified information. In their view, the new initiatives are primarily intended to intimidate personnel and strengthen internal control.
