New Zealand has announced a new package of sanctions against individuals and organizations supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The restrictions cover 20 individuals and entities linked to Russian cybercriminal activity, propaganda, and support for the Russian military-industrial complex.
The country’s government stated that the sanctions target entities contributing to the Kremlin’s hybrid warfare methods, including the use of online platforms to spread anti-Ukrainian propaganda and support illegal aggression.
“Those who abuse online platforms to support Russia’s war against Ukraine will face real consequences, including sanctions,” said New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters.
An alternative payment service provider was also placed under sanctions, which authorities say was used to circumvent international sanctions against Russia.
“We are targeting the payment infrastructure that facilitated Russia’s war against Ukraine,” Peters emphasized.
In addition to Russian entities, the new restrictions also apply to subjects from North Korea and Iran that support the Russian armed forces.
New Zealand recalled that since March 2022, the country has already imposed sanctions against more than 2,000 individuals, legal entities, and vessels linked to Russia. The current package became the 35th round of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
