The European Union and Hungary continue negotiations on unblocking €90 billion in funding for Ukraine. Budapest links its decision to the resumption of Russian oil supplies via the “Druzhba” pipeline.

The Hungarian government, currently undergoing a political transition phase, has stated its readiness to unblock the loan for Ukraine as early as this week amid talks with Brussels over access to frozen funding.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that Budapest received information through the EU about a possible resumption of oil supplies via the “Druzhba” pipeline, which was damaged following an attack at the end of January.
“Hungary’s position has not changed. If there is oil, there will be money,” Orbán said.
The European Commission confirmed contacts with relevant parties to facilitate the restoration of oil supplies and stressed that EU countries must fulfill previously agreed commitments regarding the loan for Ukraine.
Hungarian Minister for EU Affairs János Bóka said the decision could be made on April 22 during a meeting of EU ambassadors, provided that supplies are restored.
According to media reports, these funds are critical for Ukraine amid the ongoing war and reduced support from the United States, with current resources potentially sufficient only until June.
