According to ČT24, the previous government of Petr Fiala allocated about 165 million CZK (approximately €6.8 million) for such projects, while Prime Minister Andrej Babiš’s government proposes reducing the amount to 50 million CZK (approximately €2 million).
Foreign Minister Petr Macek explained the cuts as necessary for budget savings and financial optimization. Previously, this money was used to support humanitarian initiatives abroad, including firefighting in Spain, aid to the Gaza sector, and the purchase of generators for Ukrainian cities.
The government’s decision has sparked criticism from the opposition. Former Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský called the cuts “a revenge against humanity” and emphasized that these funds were used to restore schools and housing for internally displaced persons in Ukraine. It is currently unknown whether these projects will continue.
