In 2025, the volume of bilateral trade between China and Russia amounted to 1.63 trillion yuan ($234 billion), which is 6.5% less compared to the previous year — marking the first decline since 2020 after four years of growth.

The decrease is attributed to falling demand for Chinese cars in Russia and a reduction in the value of Russian crude oil supplies to China. Chinese exports to Russia fell by 9.9%, while imports from Russia decreased by 3.4%. In dollar terms, the trade volume dropped by 6.9% to $228.1 billion.
At the same time, in December, exports from China increased by 2.2%, and imports from Russia rose by 17.1%. Overall, China’s trade surplus reached a record $1.2 trillion thanks to export growth to markets outside the U.S., partially offsetting the impact of tariffs imposed by the Donald Trump administration.
