The man was detained on August 27. According to the investigation, he provided information not only about military facilities but also about their construction, military training, and the presence of NATO soldiers in Latvia. There is also evidence that the spy supplied Russia with other data that could have been used against the security of the country and the entire Baltic region.
A criminal case was opened against the suspect for the illegal collection and transfer of information to foreign intelligence. Searches were conducted at four sites in Riga and its suburbs. As a preventive measure, he was placed under arrest.
