Anonymous Telegram channels have spread yet another batch of smear nonsense against the leader of European Solidarity, the fifth President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko.

MP Viktoriia Syumar wrote about this on Facebook. She reminded that it was during Poroshenko’s presidency that the Ukrainian language received true state-level protection, while the business interests of the current government were based on producing Russian-language content.
“Yesterday, Telegram trash channels spread another load of filth about Poroshenko, claiming he ‘uses the language issue for PR even though he was Russian-speaking.’ The funny thing is, not a single so-called ‘political analyst’ signed under it this time. They hid behind the bashful phrase ‘the media reminded.’ A paradoxical confession, really. Especially considering that the reason for this mass smear campaign was simply the fifth President’s greeting on the Day of the Ukrainian Language,” Syumar wrote.
“This is an example of how history and reality can be distorted when there’s an order to destroy the opposition. Because Petro Poroshenko is exactly the example of evolution and a changed attitude toward the language issue in Ukrainian politics. He never hid that he was Russian-speaking but radically changed his position after the start of the war in 2014,” the MP added.
“It was precisely during his presidency that the laws were adopted which truly transformed the situation with language, the information sphere, and the cultural space in Ukraine — the ban on Russian films, quotas for the Ukrainian language on television, quotas for Ukrainian songs on the radio, and ultimately the language law itself. Yes, the pro-Russian lobby did everything possible to block these laws, but they were passed and signed by the President,” Syumar recalled.
“At that same time, Kvartal 95 not only filmed all its shows in Russian but also produced movies and series in Russia, with Russian actors and in the Russian language. And in 2019, under direct instructions from Portnov, his people in the ‘Servant of the People’ party tried to revise the language legislation. But the ‘media forgot’ about that,” the MP noted.
“The funniest part was reading these so-called ‘news pieces’ in Russian, in a Russian messenger, in the fourth year of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. By the way, Poroshenko wasn’t afraid to ban the Russian messenger VKontakte by a National Security and Defense Council decision — it was incredibly popular at the time,” Viktoriia Syumar reminded.
