Ukraine has begun developing low-cost missiles to shoot down Russian kamikaze drones of the “Shahed” type. The Ministry of Defense plans to scale up their production ahead of the autumn-winter period. This was reported by Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, according to Ukrinform.

According to him, the project is being implemented under a presidential directive and has already reached the testing stage.
“Following the president’s task, we are currently focused on creating low-cost missiles to shoot down ‘Shaheds.’ We have already found solutions that are close to ready and have started testing them,” Fedorov said.
He emphasized that the state plans to significantly increase the production of such interceptors — by dozens of times — and build up sufficient stockpiles ahead of the autumn-winter period, when the risk of large-scale attacks traditionally increases.
The minister also stressed that the new missiles are intended to become part of a multi-layered system for protecting critical infrastructure, together with drone interceptors.
“Our task is to scale production by dozens of times and have a stock of such missiles for the autumn-winter period. We want to scale and reduce the cost of interceptor missiles to prepare for the emergence of jet-powered ‘Shaheds,’” he added.
