On Thursday, January 1, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced his readiness to hold negotiations with the United States on drug trafficking, oil, and migration after weeks of escalating pressure from Washington, reports BBC.

Maduro emphasized that he is open to dialogue with the U.S. “anywhere and anytime,” but did not give a direct response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement about an alleged attack by American forces on a port area in Venezuela.
Recall that at the end of December, Trump claimed that the U.S. had struck a large facility allegedly used for loading boats with drugs. U.S. media reported possible involvement of CIA drones, and if confirmed, this would be the first U.S. operation directly on Venezuelan territory.
Maduro added that he is ready to discuss issues of drug trafficking, oil, and migration “in a few days.”
