This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka during a question-and-answer session with the government in the Verkhovna Rada on April 30, according to Suspilne.
According to him, despite political difficulties last year, Ukraine has completed a significant part of the technical preparation. The European Union had previously provided a list of requirements for opening negotiation clusters.
“In total, we have 145 EU requirements. Most of them relate to aligning Ukrainian legislation with EU standards, as well as the daily practices of institutions. All these requirements are realistic. Over the next 12–18 months, it is possible to close most negotiation chapters and move next year toward signing an EU accession agreement,” Kachka said.
He also reported that in March Ukraine received the second part of the conditions from the European Commission required to complete the technical stage of the negotiations. Work is ongoing across all six negotiation clusters, and their official opening is expected in July during an intergovernmental conference.
After the signing of the accession agreement, the document must be ratified by the parliaments of all EU member states and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. According to the official, this process may take several years.
