“No, there will be no escalation. I don’t think it’s necessary,” Trump said.

At the same time, the American leader sharply assessed the situation on the island, noting that Cuba is in a deep crisis.

“Look, the country is falling apart. There is chaos there, and they have effectively lost control over Cuba,” he said.

Earlier, the U.S. Department of Justice charged Raúl Castro in connection with the 1996 shootdown of two aircraft belonging to the humanitarian organization Brothers to the Rescue, in which four people were killed, including U.S. citizens.

In the United States, it is believed that the Cuban leadership may have authorized the attack. Castro is accused of conspiracy to murder U.S. citizens and to destroy aircraft.

Despite the tough rhetoric, Trump did not confirm any intentions regarding military action. At the same time, the U.S. administration continues economic pressure on Cuba, including restrictions on fuel supplies, which have already caused disruptions in the island’s power system.

Answering a question about a possible tightening of the embargo, Trump said:

“We’ll see. We will announce it very soon.”
