The United States is moving closer to approving a new $1.3 billion military aid package for Ukraine and imposing additional sanctions against Russia. This is reported by The Hill.

On June 3, the U.S. House of Representatives supported a procedural decision that opens the way for a final vote on the relevant bill. It was supported by 218 lawmakers, while 204 voted against. The final consideration of the document is expected in the near future.
The bill provides for $1.3 billion in security assistance for Ukraine, as well as up to $8 billion in loan support. It also proposes extending the Lend-Lease program until 2028 and allocating $300 million in military aid in both 2026 and 2027.
A separate part of the initiative concerns strengthening economic pressure on Russia. In particular, it includes new sanctions on Russia’s oil sector and the possible introduction of 500% tariffs on a range of Russian goods.
“The House of Representatives has cleared the way for a final vote on the bill on aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia,” the publication notes.
The document was brought forward under a discharge petition procedure, which allows a bill to advance without the support of House leadership if at least 218 lawmakers sign it. The decisive signature was that of Congressman Kevin Kiley, after which the initiative was officially allowed to proceed for consideration.
