U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Vitaker reiterated President Donald Trump’s call for allies to join a military mission in the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of the world’s oil passes. According to him, allies should support the U.S. and help ensure the security of the shipping route.

Currently, the strait is effectively closed due to threats from Iran, which has led to a sharp rise in oil prices — last week, the price per barrel exceeded $100.
