The summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping became one of the most significant in recent years, as it opened the door for China’s potential involvement in resolving the war in Ukraine. This was reported by Chinese government adviser David Daokui Li in a comment to Bloomberg.

According to Li, the meeting was “historic” because the United States effectively recognized China as an equal partner on global issues. One of the key topics of the talks was the situation in Ukraine. “Among all meetings between the two leaders, this is perhaps the most important — truly historic. The main breakthrough lies in the U.S. recognition of China as an equal partner in discussing major issues,” the adviser emphasized.
After the summit, Donald Trump announced that Washington and Beijing had agreed to work together on resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Although details of the agreements have not yet been disclosed, analysts believe that China’s involvement could significantly influence the diplomatic process and create new opportunities for peace.
Other outcomes of the meeting included a one-year trade truce, tariff revisions, and joint oversight of critical mineral exports. Optimism prevailed in Beijing following the talks, with Xi Jinping’s chief of staff, Cai Qi, declaring the start of “proactive management of the international arena,” reflecting China’s confidence in its strengthened global role.
At the same time, the United States continues its policy of reducing dependence on China in strategic sectors while consolidating alliances amid Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The Trump–Xi meeting took place on October 30 in South Korea. During the talks, Xi Jinping emphasized the need for “joint efforts toward global stability and prosperity,” while Trump reaffirmed Washington’s readiness to cooperate with Beijing in seeking paths to a peaceful resolution.
