In the temporarily occupied Crimea, the Russian authorities are intensifying repressions against Ukrainian activists. Almost all women held there are accused under charges of “state treason” or “espionage.”

This was reported during a press briefing in Kyiv. The Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Olha Kuryshko, stated that in Crimea, Russians have already opened more than 1,500 administrative cases for so-called “discrediting of the Russian army.” In total, over 200 Ukrainian political prisoners are currently in captivity, and this number is growing.
Head of the Crimean Human Rights Group, Olha Skrypnyk, emphasized that cases against women are conducted in closed sessions at the military court in Rostov-on-Don. This is a direct violation of International Humanitarian Law.
According to her:
- there are no women’s colonies in Crimea, so convicts are transported to Russia, often to remote regions;
- Russians manipulate the children of imprisoned women;
- courts ignore information about health conditions, the presence of children, or guardianship of people with disabilities.
Human rights defenders stress that the persecution of Ukrainian women in Crimea is becoming systematic and cruel, and the scale of political repression on the peninsula continues to grow.
